Jobs: Transgender Rights Internship - Fall and Spring Semester

National Headquarters, New York

Responsibilities

The law student intern, under the supervision of Lambda Legal’s Transgender Rights Attorney, will assist primarily with advancing Lambda Legal’s transgender civil rights work. Tasks will include: research and drafting in ongoing cases, prospective cases, and amicus curiae briefs; research, drafting, and/or editing publications on issues for general public education; and assistance with the maintenance and expansion of resources for our national legal Help Desk.

Qualifications

Because of the focused and challenging nature of the work Lambda Legal does, we prefer to hire law students who have some experience with transgender issues. Thus, a background in or familiarity with issues, legal or otherwise, important to transgender people will greatly strengthen an application. Commitment to public interest law also greatly strengthens an application. Lambda Legal encourages applications from transgender people, people of color, and people with disabilities, including HIV. The ability to speak additional languages, especially Spanish, is a plus.

Compensation

This is a nonpaying position. Interns are strongly encouraged to seek out and apply for grants from their school and/or funding from other sources, or course credit where available.

Application

Position will remain open until filled. Applicants should send resume, cover letter (with hours of availability for the semester/term), and short writing sample to:
